Last weekend was a snowy and cold weekend, perfect to be inside to sew, eat delicious food and relax! It was the first ever SWO MOD Retreat with MQG members from Windsor to Toronto and everywhere in between. Retreat guests started arriving just after lunch on Friday and immediately started checking out what was in the gift bags. Thanks again to all our sponsors for your generous donations! Fabrics, notions, magazines, pin cushions, thread catchers and of course chocolate were some of the many items in each bag. We even had gift cards so that we can shop for more fabric in the future! Have a look at our sponsor page for more info. Here is a photo of the room starting to fill up with retreat guests. After a delicious dinner we had an ice breaker game that our very own Rebecca designed. I am sure a major board game company would love to market this! It is a puzzle type game where you have a bunch of tiles that are different HSTs and a photo and the first person to recreate the photo with the HST tiles wins. Clearly Rebecca has kids in hockey as the chart for the game was much like a hockey tournament chart. Here are lots of photos from that game. Karen was our big winner. The blurry photos were from the fact that she was so excited to win, she didn't stand still. Once she settled down we took a nice photo of her hugging her prize- fabric and batting and thread for a whole quilt! Saturday morning we offered a yoga class so we could stretch out our kinks from sewing all weekend. I think all yoga participants will thank me for NOT having photos of this event! During the afternoon, we had 2 vendors set up for a pop up shop. Michelle from Kallisti Quilts and Shirley from The Marsh Store. I think our retreat guests loved having a little bit of shopping time. Catherine bought a charm square pack and 2 hours later had sewn them together into a small quilt! We sewed all day Saturday and were surprised by a very famous guest who stopped by on her way from teaching at one venue to the next. Yes everyone that is Jacquie Gering- the MQG President! We tried to show her where we were sewing but our room was locked. Here is a photo of Jacquie trying to break in! And one of her visiting us at dinner. After dinner on Saturday we had pajamas and prizes as well as some home made cookies! We did not need any more food, but who could resist warm cookies? We drew names and everyone had the chance to pick out a door prize- once again thank you to our generous sponsors! We had enough prizes that we had to combine some to make prize packs! Sunday was our last day for the retreat and we enjoyed a delicious brunch with mimosas! Did I tell you how wonderful the food was? Judging by the photos, this was a very productive weekend for many ladies! Here are some photos of the projects we were working on as well as some finished quilt tops. Thank you everyone that made this retreat possible! Organizers, guests, sponsors, vendors everyone! Who knew we could whip up such a fantastic retreat in 6 months?
We are in the early stages of picking a date for 2018 so stay tuned. You aren't going to want to miss the next one!
